To say that Fox’s new hit show, Empire is doing well is an understatement. Within its first two weeks, the hip hop drama got picked up for its second season. The star studded cast DMV royalty Taraji P Henson (Cookie Lyon) along with Terrence Howard (Lucious Lyon), Jussie Smollett (Jamal Lyon), Bryshere Gray(Hakeem Lyon), and Trai Byers (Andre Lyon) graced our televisions every Wednesday at 9pm, broke records and took EMPIRE to the top. The awaited season finale was filled with guest stars like Patti LaBelle, Snoop Dogg, and others, and at the end of the night it was reported that the show capped off its first season at 16.5 Million Views!!!

The twists and turns of this show keep #CookieMonsters and #TeamLyon Fans in constant suspense. The use of social media hashtags during each episode of the show keeps the complex plots interactive and the drama as a whole all the more exciting. But what about Malik Yoba, the seasoned actor who plays alongside Terrence Howard as Vernon Turner? Last night Vernon was “killed” by Rhonda in defense of her husband Andre after walking in on the two men getting into scrapes.

My Question is Why Did Vernon Die SO Early? Apparently, that’s what Yoba was inquiring about as well.

The YBF (The Young Black and Fabulous) Celebrity Gossip News Source reports that in an interview they did with him, Yoba commented about his character saying, “Vernon Turner [was] not being utilized to his fullest capacity—Vernon was described as the chairman of the board. Since he’s the chairman of the board and they’re trying to take the company public, there’s a lot of room to talk about the business aspect of these two black men building a company in Hip Hop, in America right now. I thought we would have the opportunity to get into the business of it.”

I am of the opinion that Malik Yoba is right in questioning the seemingly pre-mature death of his character. I would have liked to get to know Vernon Turner better and also see the depth that I know Malik Yoba is capable of bringing to the characters he plays. Only time will tell how the show will fair without Vernon on the Empire Squad. I guess we’ll just have to wait for season two to find out!
